Dear Readers,
We are now in the most Holy of seasons for Christians. The solemn
proceedings that began on Ash Wednesday, bring our collective focus back
to the sacrifices made by Christ for us and the mission of our Church. Over
these 40 days of lent, we are encouraged to fast, pray, and seek repentance
for our sins. We reflect upon our life during the previous year and promise
even greater commitment to God and the Church.
Journey To The Holy Land
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to walk in the footsteps of
Christ? Have you thought what it would be like to visit the most sacred
places on earth – hallowed sites where He breathed the air and felt the
warmth of the sun? Remember that there is still time to enter to win a
dream-come-true trip to the Holy Land. It’s a breath-taking experience, a
journey that will give you a lifetime of cherished memories. And don’t
forget to let your friends and family know about this wonderful opportunity.
In this edition of Morningstar Monitor we will highlight Day 5 of
the Holy Land trip.
Highlights of this remarkable journey include an exciting boat ride across the Sea of Galilee; a gathering on
the Mount of Beautitudes to read the Sermon on the Mount; a pilgrimage to Bethlehem, birthplace of Jesus,
to visit the Church of the Nativity; a drive to the Valley of Elah where David fought Goliath; and so much
more!
Peace be with you,
Skye MacBroom

P.S. Please share your Lenten sacrifices by emailing our
bulletin board with ideas about what you will be giving
up and why. This year, I have given up salt so that each
time I automatically reach for the salt shaker (which
will be often I assure you) I will be reminded of
Christ's love and sacrifices for us all.

Preparing For the Lenten Season
Through Christ’s Love
|
Many Christians around the world are
preparing for the Lenten season leading up to the Holy
Easter Sunday. This Lenten season represents Jesus’
time in the desert; although different churches calculate
the days in varying ways, most Christians believe in a time frame of 40 days. The common traditions and religious
observations among Christians have remained true for
centuries: self-examination, prayer, self-denial, fasting
and meditating on God’s Holy word. The purpose of Lent
is for Christians to pray, reflect and prepare for the death
of the Lord, the events surrounding the Passion of Christ,
and finally, the resurrection of Christ in the celebration of
Easter. Lent begins on Ash Wednesday and goes until
Holy Saturday; each Sunday in this period is considered a
celebration of Jesus’ victory over sin and death...

The History of St. Patrick’s Day
Celebrating the Green
|
St. Patrick is believed to have driven the snakes from
Ireland and is considered to be one of Christianity's most
widely known figures today. The holiday is based on the
Christian saint’s feast and is believed to be the day of St.
Patrick’s death. The Irish have observed this religious
holiday for thousands of years. In the early 1700’s, Irish
immigrants in Boston started to observe March 17th as St.
Patrick’s Day and held parades and celebrated with
special meals. St. Patrick’s Day occurs during the Lenten
season, so families would attend church services in the
morning, and then enjoy a festival at night. Christians
were not allowed to eat meat during this season, but there
was a waiver for the holiday and Irish Christian families
would drink, listen to music, dance and enjoy a meal of
corned beef and cabbage. Up until the 1970’s, St.
Patrick’s Day was considered to be such a special religious
holiday that in Ireland, all pubs were closed on the
holiday...[Read More]

OUR CHARITABLE COMMITMENT |
Morningstar Collection is a benevolent company with deep feelings for
all humanity. We feel it is our responsibility to share our proceeds
with qualified charities that support those in need, especially
children. Therefore, a portion of the proceeds from every single sale is
donated to charity. Thank you for helping us to spread the endless love
of Jesus to those who need it the most. This week we would like to tell
you a little more about a very special charity we are proud to
contribute to, The Global Hunger Project.

The Global Hunger Project is a
global, strategic organization committed to the sustainable end of world
hunger. In Africa, Asia and Latin America, the Hunger Project has the
stated intent of empowering grassroots people to achieve lasting
progress in health, education, nutrition and family income. The Hunger
Project started in 1977 as one of many hunger-related organizations
founded in the wake of the first World Food Conference in Rome. That
conference discussed for the first time the notion of "ending" hunger
(rather than alleviating hunger). Many expressed frustration that
conventional approaches and conventional thinking did not suffice to
meet the challenge. The Hunger Project sees itself as "designed to
challenge conventional thinking, and pioneer strategies which could
address the root causes that gave rise to wide-spread hunger and
poverty."
